We are thrilled to announce our 3rd North American Gathering… and how you can get early (and discounted) registration!

N.T. Wright, preeminent scholar, author, and Bishop is just one in the amazing line up of presenters at Awakenings: The Mission of the Spirit as the Life of the Church, taking place April 27-29, 2017 in Alexandria, Virginia.

Continuing in our tradition of creating space for conversation and reflection around a topic of crucial significance for the life of the Church in God’s mission today, our gathering will center on the person and work of the Holy Spirit.

Along with N.T. Wright, we are honored to have church leaders such as Ruth Padilla DeBorst, Tammy Dunahoo, Howard-John Wesley, Greg Boyd, Cherith Nordling, Todd Hunter, Jorge Acevedo, and many others joining us. These friends, who represent an important diversity of tribes, traditions, and ministry contexts, will play a vital role in framing our perspectives and conversations as we seek to reflect on and encounter the Holy Spirit in our time together.

About the Conference

The Holy Spirit.

Promised by Jesus in the Gospel accounts, progressively demonstrated throughout the book of Acts, and central to Paul’s own message and ministry, the Holy Spirit is the presence and power of God at work among us unto the redemption, reconciliation, and recreation of all things.

The Church.

As communities of disciples who live under the rule and reign of God, the Church is most fundamentally a fellowship of those marked, gifted, and empowered by the Holy Spirit for the sake of God’s mission in the world.

Unfortunately, in large segments of Western Christianity, the centrality of the person and work of the Holy Spirit as they relate to the life of the Church have been restricted to a few streams or nearly overlooked entirely.

The result?

Much of the Church operates without a practical, embodied theology of the Holy Spirit.

But this is changing!

In pockets of many expressions of the Church, many are experiencing different kinds of “awakenings,” which call our attention back to the person and ministry of the Holy Spirit of God among us. As the Spirit of God “awakened” life in the early church for the sake of God’s mission in that time, the same is true today.

Join us next April for a fresh engagement with the person and work of the Holy Spirit and explore how such an engagement might advance the mission of God among our congregations, through our ministries, and in our own lives!
