Missio Alliance is tremendously excited to announce a key transition and several additions to our Board!

During the most recent meeting of the Missio Alliance Board, amid important discussions concerning our identity as an organization and ongoing discernment of our ministry priorities, a key decision was made.

Jim Baucom, Senior Pastor of Columbia Baptist Church, who, on account of his extensive experience in the formation of Boards of Directors had graciously agreed to serve as our first Chair, suggested that he should resign as Chair and requested that fellow Missio Alliance Board member, Leroy Barber, be nominated to serve as our next Board Chair. With a thick sense among all present of the Holy Spirit’s leading in this, Jim Baucom’s resignation was received, and Leroy Barber was unanimously affirmed as our new Board Chair. At Leroy’s urging, Jim Baucom will remain a member of the Board for the duration of his term.

While Leroy’s voice has already been a key part of the formation of Missio Alliance in our early years, we look forward to the counsel and leadership he will provide in this new role! Leroy will be formally installed and has been invited to deliver an opening address at our upcoming gathering, Awakenings: The Mission of the Spirit as the Life of the Church, April 27-29, 2017 in Alexandria, VA at Alfred Street Baptist Church.

Beyond this transition, we are equally excited to announce two key additions to our Board, Nikki Toyama-Szeto and Dr. Wayne Faison.

Nikki Toyama-Szeto, co-author of More than Serving Tea and God of Justice, who most recently served as senior director of biblical justice integration and mobilization at International Justice Mission, has been part of Missio Alliance since our earliest stages of formation.

Along the way she has been a constant ally and sounding board for all the work to which God has called us. Nikki has spoken at several of our major gatherings, serves as a Leading Voice on our online publishing platform, and will be involved in a number of upcoming initiatives on our horizon.

Wayne Faison is Senior Pastor of East End Baptist Church in Suffolk, VA and serves as an executive leader for the Courageous Churches Team of the Virginia Baptist Mission Board. Like Nikki, Wayne has been involved with Missio Alliance since our very inception contributing to our identity and ministry as an advisor, presenter, and friend. As a pastor-theologian whose experience and engagement span a diverse range of mission contexts and leadership priorities, Wayne will be an invaluable resource to Missio Alliance as we enter the next season of the development of our ministry.

Excited as we are about these transitions and additions, we also feel the loss of two Board members who, at the end of their terms, are transitioning off of the Board, Scott Daniels and Doug Cullum.

Scott Daniels, who, during his tenure as a Missio Alliance Board member, was Senior pastor of Pasadena Nazarene Church as well as Dean of the School of Theology (now Seminary) at Azusa Pacific University, is now the Senior Pastor of College Church of the Nazarene. Doug Cullum is Vice President and Dean at Northeastern Seminary.

The entire Missio Alliance Board and its Staff wish to convey our deepest appreciation for all that ways Scott and Doug served and blessed Missio Alliance with their leadership.
