From the 2017 SheLeads Summit, Alexia Salvatierra, Kate Wallace Nunneley, Janette Ok, and JR Rozko engage in a conversation and share stories about the most significant issues and opportunities facing the church when it comes to empowering women and God’s design for shared leadership.
Rev. Alexia Salvatierra is a Lutheran Pastor with over 35 years of experience in congregational (English and Spanish) and community ministry, including church-based service and community development programs, congregational/community organizing and legislative advocacy. She is the co-author of Faith-Rooted Organizing: Mobilizing the Church in Service to the World (IVP) and the founder of the Faith-Rooted Organizing UnNetwork. Rev. Salvatierra currently serves as a consultant (training, facilitating, organizing and leading strategic planning) for a variety of national/international organizations, (including World Vision USA/World Vision International/Women of Vision, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and the Christian Community Development Association) and is affiliate/adjunct professor at seven Christian academic institutions including the School of Intercultural Studies and the Centro Latino at Fuller Theological Seminary.
Kate Wallace Nunneley is Co-Founder of The Junia Project and Associate Pastor at Wellspring Free Methodist Church in Bakersfield, CA. A committed Christian and feminist, Kate enjoys writing and speaking on the intersection of politics, religion, and gender. Her favorite theologian is Gilbert Bilezikian, and she holds a Master of Science from London School of Economics and a Bachelor of Arts from Azusa Pacific University. Kate is currently pursuing her Masters of Divinity at Azusa Pacific Seminary.
Janette Ok is the Teaching Pastor of Ekko Church and Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies, New Testament at Azusa Pacific Seminary. She has more than 18 years of ministry experience and has studied at UCLA and Princeton Theological Seminary. Janette is passionate about equipping leaders and preachers for the church. She spends (or tries to spend) her best waking hours with her three hilarious children, Martin, Arielle, and Theodore, and best friend and husband, Ricky.
JR has spent most of his working life serving simultaneously in local churches as a pastor and in theological education as a program developer and instructor. His main interests and passions revolve around helping the Western Church develop missional perspectives and instincts, especially through a greater awareness and engagement with Church leaders in the Majority World. Helping to create new networks, partnerships, conversations, and resources that embody and advance the good news of God’s mission of reconciliation is at the center of JR’s personal sense of call.
JR has a Doctorate in Missiology from Fuller Theological Seminary. He and his family live in Canton, OH and are part of LoveCanton, a congregation of RiverTree Christian Church, where he serves as an Equipping Coach for Theology and Practice.
