Practices and Resources for Advent 2013

The season of Advent is upon us. Especially given the frantic and full pace that has come to mark this time of year for many of us, Advent greets us as an unexpected yet longed for invitation to rest – to slow down, to wait, and to remember that the crux of all of human history rests, not on our productivity, accomplishments, or status, but upon God and God’s loving coming. Advent is a time when we, with a heightened intentionality, exchange a posture of achieving for one of receiving. We plan to offer some written and visual reflection pieces throughout the season of Advent that we hope will inspire and you and facilitate a special encounter with God. But in addition to that, we would love to create and share a selection of resources curated from among the broader Missio Alliance community. To do that, we’ll do 2 things:

  1. We will re-share this post throughout the month, inviting you to comment about the practices and resources you have or are benefiting from during Advent.
  2. We’ll share your comments through Facebook and Twitter so others can benefit from them.

We hope you’ll check back often to see what others have offered up. Here’s a prayer we offer in the hope of Christ’s Advent:

Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
