Partnerships are the fuel that Missio Alliance runs on, and we couldn’t be more excited than to announce our new partnership with Friends University! Friends University, with its profound commitment to Spiritual Formation, has a long history of spurring the Church to deeper and more tangible relationship with God.

Joining God’s mission requires churches and individuals who are formed by Christ. We are thrilled to see how this partnership will continue to promote such formation.

Here’s how Friends described the relationship in a recent press release:

Friends University has recently established a partnership with Missio Alliance, an organization that unites pastors, practitioner-theologians, and universities in the interest of cross-cultural and interdenominational collaboration around biblically-grounded theology.

“We see this new partnership as a wonderful opportunity to support our mission to help students honor God and serve others,” said Dr. James Bryan Smith, associate professor of religion and Dallas Willard Chair of Christian Spiritual Formation. “Missio Alliance’s resources and community will help us as we expand our work in Christian spiritual formation through our Christian spiritual formation programs and the Apprentice Institute.”

Friends University offers an undergraduate Christian spiritual formation major designed to be a second major or a certificate. Through the major, students develop a deepened spirituality and faith and are prepared for Christian service in combination with their chosen career field. The University also offers a Master of Arts in Christian Spiritual Formation and Leadership for both lay people and people in professional ministry who want to develop a stronger framework for spiritual formation and build a stronger theological foundation.

The Apprentice Institute was founded at Friends University under the leadership of Dr. Smith with the vision of renewing the world and the Church through the formation of new people and new communities who have begun living a radical Christian life in conformity to the teachings for Jesus, as his apprentices.

Friends University, a Christian University of Quaker heritage, equips students to honor God and serve others by integrating their intellectual, spiritual, and professional lives.
