“When God created human beings, he made them in the likeness of God. He created them male and female and blessed them. And when they were created, he called them ‘human beings’ (Gen. 5:1-2). Our gendered identity it part of the very essence of what it means to be human. More than this, our gendered identity is something blessed by God as reflective of being made in God’s own image. The implications of this reality span the full range of our embodied existence – including the areas of self-identity, work, community, marriage, leadership in ministry, and still others. And while must take seriously the ways in which sin affects this part of God’s design for humanity, in light of the resurrection of Jesus we are invited to live into God’s present work of redemption and recreation with respect to our gendered identity.
